A successful arrival

Former FIAS doctoral student receives award from the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration

This year, the Hessian Minister for Social Affairs and Integration, Stefan Grüttner, honoured personalities with a migration background from all over Hesse for outstanding achievements in the fields of education, business and science at a ceremony in Schloss Biebrich in Wiesbaden. One of them is Hanna Kamyshanska, a former PhD of the Frankfurt Institute for Avanced Studies (FIAS).

A jury, which was composed of members of Hessian Advisory Councils for Foreigners, made the selection of those to be honoured. One of the honoured personalities is the 34-year-old computer scientist Hanna Kamyshanska. She came to Germany alone in 2004 to study computer science at the Goethe University, graduating with honors. From 2013 to 2017 she was a PhD student with Prof. Dr. Matthias Kaschube at FIAS. Her doctoral thesis is entitled "The Infuence of Recurrent Interactions on Orientation Discrimination in Primary Visual Cortex", which she will submit to the Department of Computer Science at the Goethe University. Since autumn 2017 Hanna Kamyshanska is Senior Data Scientist in the Research and Development Department of AGTinternational in Darmstadt, Germany, and deals with the Internet of Things.

Following the award of the Integration Prize by the City of Frankfurt in recent years, this year for the first time the state government has awarded the prize to 20 people with an immigrant background from the entire federal state. The award ceremony by the Minister for Social Affairs and Integration took place on 06.06.2018 in Schloss Biebrich, Wiesbaden. "I am delighted to be able to honour these people here today in Biebrich Castle because they have successfully arrived in Hesse and stand for successful integration. They are all honoured for outstanding achievements," said Minister Grüttner in the Ministry's press release.
