PhD of Mingjun Xiang on AI-powered algorithms for terahertz imaging
Congratulations on a top-class doctoral thesis!
We warmly congratulate Mingjun Xiang on successfully defending her PhD at Goethe University Frankfurt and in the FIAS group of FIAS Fellow Kai Zhou.
During her doctoral research at FIAS, Mingjun focused on developing AI-powered algorithms for terahertz imaging, with an emphasis on physics-informed deep learning methods for amplitude-phase retrieval and 3D reconstruction under challenging conditions such as occlusion and limited data. Her innovative approaches significantly improve the accuracy and robustness of terahertz holography and imaging.
Mingjun has published six first-author papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. In 2024, she was awarded First Place at International Summer School on Terahertz Science and Technology the, recognizing the outstanding quality and impact of her work.
She is also actively engaged in technology transfer and entrepreneurship, having applied for several research transfer grants (e. g., EXIST Forschungstransfer) with the aim of translating her AI-based THz imaging systems into real-world applications.
After graduation, Mingjun plans to continue her research at the intersection of AI and intelligent terahertz sensing systems, striving to bring cutting-edge scientific innovation into practical use.
