Science to touch at Hessentag
From 20 to 29 May 2016, visitors of the Hesse Day can experiment, marvel and discuss with scientists of the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies FIAS. As part of the initiative' Hessen Creates Knowledge' at the' Platz der Bildung und Wissenschaft', the researchers present a varied programme in which all interested parties can participate in experiments and gain insights into current research.
At several experimental stations, young doctoral students and students provide visitors with a fascinating insight into current research. For example, a 3-metre-long orbit shows how a particle accelerator works. But the junior scientists at FIAS are also bringing the model of a real accelerator with them. In addition, the visitors will learn about principles such as superconductivity and vacuum, as well as their application in research. For the FIAS team, it is just as important to communicate the fun of science and the content itself.
The concept has been successful, and since 2013 the constantly evolving exhibition has been touring throughout Hesse. Not only at major events such as Hessentag, the Frankfurt Book Fair or the Bundesrat's Open Day, young scientists are enthusiastic about their research: they also travel regularly to schools and offer pupils of all ages and school branches an extraordinary look behind the scenes of German cutting-edge research.
In addition to FIAS, other partners from universities, research institutions and schools will be presenting current topics of top-class Hessian research, exciting participatory experiments and an alternating stage programme at the 360 square metre stand of the' Hessen schafft Wissen' initiative.
On behalf of the Hessian Ministry of Science and the Arts, HA Hessen Agentur GmbH organizes and realizes the large joint stand, which impressively demonstrates how varied research is conducted in Hessen. "Every day, our universities create innovations that benefit the world's people,"said Science Minister Boris Rhein. We would like to draw attention to this efficiency and the success of our location in a national and international comparison. Folke Mühlhölzer, Chairman of the Management Board of HA Hessen Agentur GmbH, adds:"No other state in Germany has more people working in science and research than Hesse. We do world-class research - and we get it from the laboratories to Hesse Day."
Hessen creates knowledge is supported by Hessian universities, non-university research institutions, business partners and the state of Hesse. The initiative aims to make the achievements of Hessen's universities and research institutions accessible to a broad public and to make their benefits clear for the citizens. In addition, it aims to strengthen Hesse as a location for science and research and thus also to promote the recruitment of young scientists, specialists and managers. A further goal is it to promote with young humans the interest in science. www.hessen-schafft-wissen.de The HA Hessen agency GmbH is the service and business development company of the country. It implements projects, campaigns and promotional activities and also acts as a consultant and think tank.
