From Research to Startups – A Career Talk with Lidia Pieri

Insights into the path from academic science to biotech entrepreneurship

On 8 May 2025, the Frankfurt International Graduate School for Science (FIGSS) welcomed Lidia Pieri, co-founder and CEO of Sibylla Biotech, to Campus Riedberg. A trained particle physicist, Lidia shared her journey from fundamental research to founding a biotech company.

In her talk, she offered personal insights into the challenges and opportunities of transitioning from science to entrepreneurship. Particularly valuable were her reflections on setbacks, teamwork, and the balance between scientific rigor and entrepreneurial risk.

In the afternoon, many of the attending PhD candidates and postdocs took part in small-group and individual discussions, gaining tailored advice and new perspectives for their own professional paths.

This event was part of the our graduate schools "FIGSS" career program, which supports early-career researchers in making informed decisions about their professional future—whether in academia or in adjacent fields such as innovation, technology transfer, or industry.
