Franziska Matthäus will be Professor of Bioinformatics at the Department of Biology at Goethe University from October 2016. She is also a Fellow of the FIAS - Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies, where theoretically working groups from computer science and the life sciences work together on an interdisciplinary basis. Her work will focus on bioinformatics data analysis and the recognition and modeling of complex patterns in biological systems.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Gravity and Information

Nobel-laureate Gerard 't Hooft, released a paper with FIAS Scientists Piero Nicolini and Marcus Bleicher. Together with Steven B. Giddings, Carlo Rovelli, Jonas Mureika and Matthias Kaminski they try to take on different approaches on a theory of quantum gravity and the ways these relate to information and black holes. This paper is a continuation of their meeting last year at FIAS during the Karl Schwarzschild Meeting.

The FIAS stand at the Hessentag in Herborn is a complete success. Since last Friday, several hundred visitors have been amazed and experimenting with FIAS and research every day. Today, Wednesday, 25 May 2015, there was a high attendance: The Hessian Minister of Science and Art, Boris Rhein, took half an hour to try out the exhibits for himself. Together with Dr. Sascha Vogel from FIAS, he set new record times at our marble linear accelerator. You can also visit us on Hessentag until Sunday! You will find us in Herborn at the booth of Initiative Hessen schafft Wissen.

Honorary doctorate for Professor Horst Stöcker

On Friday, February 19,2016, Professor Dr. Dr. Dr. h. c. mult. Horst Stöcker was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) in Dubna, Russia. Stöcker was awarded "for outstanding contributions to the progress of science and for the training of young scientists". The award was presented by the director of JINR, Professor Victor Matveev, at the meeting of the Scientific Council of JINR, of which Horst Stöcker has been a member for many years.
